The day before, on 22 March, the Volga Region University hosted a wonderful, spring Navruz Bairam, a holiday that has preserved the full flavour of ancient traditions and rituals to the fullest.
Nowruz is a public holiday in a number of countries, such as Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and many others. The University of Sports and Tourism was happy to open its doors to representatives of these countries to share the customs and traditions of the holiday.
The event was attended by students from all higher education institutions, university professors and a number of invited guests, including Rafis Burganov, Rector of the University, Russian writer and publicist, PhD Firdus Fatkhlislamov and Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Community in Tatarstan Irhan Uzayldirim. Guests of honour also included Robert Bikmukhametov, Director of the Institute of Sport, Iskander Galeyev, Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, and Rezeda Khadiullina, Director of the International Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism.
The festival opened with a joint creative performance by all the participants of the event. The festival continued with dance, vocal and poetry performances by the Russian, Chuvash, Uzbek, Tatar, Arabic, Yakut and Mordovian peoples. Representatives of each ethnic group brought a dish of their national cuisine to the communal festive table for tasting. A total of 35 people representing the nationalities of the Russian Federation and foreign countries took part in the festive concert.
The leitmotif of Nowruz Bayram has long been the unity and friendship of the representatives of different ethnic groups, as the traditions represent the soul of people and their strength and unchanging beauty.
The event ended with commemorative photos of participants and guests, followed by a tasting of the national dishes presented.
