Three students of the Volga Region University will compete for the awards of the Russian Cup in gymnastics today. Competitions of the best athletes are held in Kaluga.
More than 80 gymnasts from 20 regions of Russia, as well as from Armenia and Belarus will take to the platform. Qualification competitions will be held on the first day of the Cup.
The University of Sports and Tourism will be represented at one of the top competitions of the country by first-year students Ivan Antonikhin, Nikita Andronov (both 21102gr.) and sophomore Stanislav Isaev (20102 gr.). The coach and teacher of the Department of Theory and Methods of Gymnastics Igor Beluzhenkov accompanies the guys. The guys will compete in the all-around, on all six men's shells.
In addition, the acting head of the department, judge of the international category Lyubov Botova, was invited to officiate the competition by an official call.
"I will work in qualifying as one of the referees in the exercises on the balance beam. It's a little exciting, because I haven't had to be an arbiter on a projectile at a national tournament among adults yet," Lyubov Botova shares. – This is one of the two main starts of the season in our country. The selection for it takes place at the Russian championship, so among the participants there are champions and prize–winners of European and world championships, as well as the Olympic Games. Considering that we are not allowed to participate in international competitions this year, the level of results at the Russian Cup is expected to be very high. The minimum task for the guys is to get to the all-around finals, the maximum is to get into the "eight" finalists on shells."
