The dictation was written in English by 70 students of the Volga Academy of sports and tourism in the framework of the project of the Kazan Federal University, supported by the grant of Rosmolodezh. Ignorance of English in our age is a serious omission. In the era of globalization, it allows you to expand the circle of communication, find friends around the world and travel freely.
At the faculty of service and tourism knowledge of the language determines the suitability of graduates. For athletes who by the nature of competitive activity have to visit different countries, the language has also never interfered. Therefore, the organizers of the action in the Volga Academy-the Department of foreign languages and linguistics – invited students from all faculties of the Academy. The text of the dictation about the role of music in the life of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy for the participants was read by a native English speaker James Miller. He is on the exchange program "Fulbright" this year assists in the Department. The presence of an American accent was not an obstacle for students. All showed good results. In the top three students of the faculty of physical education Oksana Ugarov and Rimma Mirgalimov, the third place remained for a graduate of the faculty of service and tourism Daniya Nigmatullina. Prize-winners according to the results of writing assignments were students of the faculty of sport Varvara Kurochkina and Niyaz Sarvarov, as well as "tourists" Karina Galeeva and Artem Akhmerov.
- We are very pleased that many students have a sincere desire to test their written competence in English. Those who took part, received great pleasure from the dictation, - says the head of the Department of foreign languages and linguistics Venus Volchkova. - Many plan to write a dictation next year. I want to believe that this initiative will be an incentive for them to further study the language of Shakespeare. I wish them success in this difficult but useful task!
