Tomorrow on the sandy courts of one of the objects of the Volga Academy, the center of beach sports, will start the 8th world championship in beach handball. Opening of the competition at 18.30. The games will be held from 24 to 29 July. The entrance is free for spectators.
For the first time in the history of the Championships, 16 men's and 16 women's teams will take part in the Kazan tournament. In their compositions on courts of the center 550 athletes will leave. Earlier in the final stage of the world Championships were 12 teams.
The world beach handball championship is held every two years by the international handball Federation (IHF). The first tournament was held in 2004 in El Gouna (Egypt) and ended with the victory of the Russian women's team. Our men's team won bronze medals in El Gouna and repeated success at the 2006 world Cup.
In Kazan beach handball competitions are held not for the first time. Since 2014 handball tournament has always been included in the program of the festival of beach sports "Beach". In 2017, the beach sports Center became one of the venues for the III All-Russian beach games, in which the Russian Cup of beach handball among women's teams was held.
According to the formula of the world championship, the tournament starts from the group stage. In the men's tournament, the opponents of the Russians in group D were the Brazilians (the most titled team in the history of the world Cup), the us and Sweden. In the women's tournament, the Russians in group C will compete with the Brazilians, Thai and American.
