Students of the Volga Region University are increasingly paying attention to science, theoretically and practically substantiating various aspects of physical education, sports and tourism.

The students of the college also vividly demonstrated their desire for knowledge at the All-Russian competition of scientific works named after N.I. Lobachevsky. Arina Kurganova and Anna Shosman became winners of the second and third degrees in the section "Service and Tourism".

- The competition was an important event for me - it was the first time I managed to reach such heights in science. My work was called ‘Development of creative self-realisation of adolescents in literary activities’. I studied the issues of deficit of live communication and difficulties of realisation of creative potential in adolescence.

During the preparation I collected literature on the topic and analysed existing research. An important stage was the creation of a presentation in which I endeavoured to summarise my ideas in a concise and accessible way. I also rehearsed my presentation in front of my classmates, which helped me feel confident on stage,’ said Arina Kurganova.

She also expressed her gratitude for support in scientific development to the college teachers Larisa Minina and Aidar Salikhov, as well as to Alsu Zheltyakova, Director of the Volga University College.

Anastasia Sultanbayeva, a second-year student of the Institute of Physical Culture, also represented the sports university of Tatarstan - she won a special nomination ‘First Steps in Science’ in the direction of ‘Medicine’.

- At the competition I made a report ‘Adaptation of athletes’ organism to different physical loads’, in which I studied anaerobic abilities of students of Povolzhsky University using Wingate testing. My supervisor - senior lecturer of the Department of Biomedical Disciplines Tatiana Shchitkovskaya guided me throughout the study.

It was the first time I took part in such a large-scale scientific event - after it only positive impressions remained. I believe that this award will be a good start for my future scientific career at our university,’ said Anastasia Sultanbayeva.

It should be noted that the competition has been held since 1996 and unites students of universities and professional educational organisations from all over Russia. It is aimed at stimulating scientific activity among students. The competition was organised by the regional youth public organisation ‘Students League of the Republic of Tatarstan’ with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs of Tatarstan.
